have i ever told you about my first cat, Yogurt?

Yogurt was an awesome cat. His only downfall was that he was a persian, which i now consider the snobs of the cat world. but whatever. i didn't care. he was a present for my fifth birthday, my very first pet, and a great cat.

i was trying to think up the name for him, and one of my mom's friends was like, "you know, i remember when your brother would name all his pets after his favorite food! he even had a cat named Broccoli!"

i thought this was a wonderful idea and immediately came up with the name Yogurt. because yogurt was and still is one of my favorite foods.

years later i was talking to my brother (who was fond of calling the cat "Gurt" as in "Yo, Gurt." he thought it was really clever) about all this, and it seems that my mom's friend had no idea what she was talking about, because not only did my brother never name a cat Broccoli, he never named a cat after any kind of food, either. thanks, psycho memory lady, you made me name my cat after a living mold culture.

eventually yogurt died, of kidney or liver failure. i forget. we had him cremated. we planned on burying the ashes (since they came in a little sealed wooden box), but we never did, and that box still resides on the mantel in my parents' house.
