San Francisco is for lovers
2004-03-15 - 2:45 PM

So. San Francisco was a-ok. My dad was there on business (some sort of convention), so I hung out with my mom on Friday, but dad was feeling left out so he skipped his convention on Saturday to hang out with us. My parents were staying at the Four Seasons, which was beyond superfine. We all slept in the same room, with me on a foldaway bed, so it was a bit tight, but it was all very nice. The bathroom was probably the nicest part of the room. It was bigger than my bedroom here in Coeur d'Alene, and it had a huge bath and seperate shower. It wasn't a Scarface-sized bathtub, but rather like a regular bathtub, maybe a few inches longer and wider, and with higher walls so you could fill it with more water. My favorite part about the bathroom, besides the bathrobes, was the soap and shampoo. They smelled like candy. The soap smelled like lemon-flavored Pez, while the shampoo smelled like grape Ring Pops. Candy scented soap and shampoo! that's how the soap smells in heaven!

We went to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, which I really enjoyed. I wrote down all the artists I liked best, but I don't have that list on me right now. They had an exhibition on Pop Art, which is why I wanted to go there in the first place, but the exhibition I liked most was "Supernova: Art of the 1990s from the Logan Collection." They had a few Takashi Murakami paintings and sculptures that I really liked a lot.

I also visited Kayo Books with my mom, who didn't find the place as interesting as I did. She basically was like, "Big deal, it's all the books and magazines from when I was younger."

I got a new pair of shoes, some Hush Puppies. I should note that these shoes aren't in the traditional hush puppy style, but rather just made by the Hush Puppies brand. Anyway, they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, more comfortable than a lot of sneakers, and from now on I think I shall only be buying Hush Puppies shoes. My feet are in heaven.

I also saw a sneak preview of Taking Lives, which was okay. I remember reading about the book when it came out and thinking that it sounded good, but I never got around to buying it. Just by reading a summary of the book, I can tell they changed a lot of it, if not most of it, for the movie, but nevermind. Just as a movie, it has some interesting twists plus some standard cliché stuff going on. Anyway, it was nothing phenomenal, but I really wasn't expecting it to be.

Anyway. While in SF, my parents broke some pretty heartbreaking news to me that they didn't want to tell me over the phone. It turns out that my sister had a baby boy last week. Unfortunately, it turns out the baby is pretty sick. They don't know exactly what's wrong with him yet, but they think it's a neurological disease. Basically, he can't move. He can't eat, pee or poop on his own. How long this kid will hang on, nobody knows. Either way, it's a tough situation. If he dies, that'll be very hard on my sister (and her husband). If he hangs on, the years of caring for this helpless child will be even harder on them.
