books in my bag:
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Empire Falls by Richard Russo
What Uncle Sam Really Wants by Noam Chomsky

Empire Falls is excellent. I read Nobody's Fool back in like 9th grade (which was almost 10 years ago, kind of odd), i think, and Straight Man last year. For some reason, I didn't like Straight Man so much, although that might've been because of my mood at the time. but Empire Falls gives me the same feeling as Nobody's Fool, which is this: I love these characters because they're so real, and even if they're small town nobodies, they're still so admirable. also wonderful sincere humor, and it feels like you're laughing with the characters. I don't want Empire Falls to end.

I haven't read the Chomsky book yet. i'm trying to read more non-fiction, because i usually only read fiction for pleasure. except for the occasional non-fiction book, usually a biography or a memoir, i'm pretty much stick to fiction. so i'm trying to change that, because i want to know more about real things. hence my recent reading of Fast Food Nation and my purchase of non-fiction books like Tough Jews (about Jewish gangsters), a Groucho Marx autobiography, and this Chomsky book. i figure if i want to learn about political issues, Chomsky's the guy to turn to.

And The Little Prince because it's always fresh and wonderful.
